How will getting married affect financial aid?

My fiance is in school and gets financial aid. I make 55k a year w/ 2 kids. Would she continue to recieve financial aid or would I be expected to contribute to her education? How will getting married affect financial aid?
First of all, marital status cannot be changed on a FAFSA once it is filed. So, if she is currently receiving aid under the 07-08 FAFSA and you get married now, it will not effect her current aid.

The new FAFSA for the 08-09 school year becomes available January 1, 2008. The question on the FAFSA regarding marital status asks ';as of today, what is your marital status?'; So whether it will effect her aid for the 08-09 school year all depends on when you become married.

For example, if you marry during the month of December 2007 and she files her FAFSA in January 2008, then she will have to mark ';married'; on her FAFSA and include both her and spouse's income. The household size would also include your 2 children and any other children or dependents living in the household for whom you and/or your wife are providing more than 50% financial support for.

On the other hand, if she files her FAFSA on January 3, 2008 (for example) and you do not get married until Januar 4, 2008 or later, she would file ';single'; on her FAFSA and it would remain that way for the entire academic year because, as I stated, marital status cannot be updated once a FAFSA is filed and it is based on your marital status as of the date you file.

So, with all of that said, if your concern is that you would rather your income stay off the FAFSA then simply get married after the date she files her renewal FAFSA.

It is nearly impossible to say what amount of aid she might qualify for with your income considered and what the difference in aid might be (especially because you do not indicate what she is currently eligible for), but a household of 4 (I assume) with $55K is not TOO much income, but I doubt that she would qualify for the maximum amount of grant. There really is no way to estimate without just filing. How will getting married affect financial aid?
Call the school and find out
Your money would become her money in the eyes of the federal government -- and to the best of your ability, you would contribute to the financing of her education.

Then again, other things have to be taken into consideration too, like: Do you own your home? Your children, etc.
Why wouldn't you want to contribute to her education?

but anyway, she should still be able to get financial aid, though I am sure it will not be as much...maybe just enough to cover school, or maybe not even cover it all.
it'll screw her over.... Many aid agencies go by the ';household'; income...That means everyone in the house, even if you have a 17 yr old kid working! Look into this BEFORE you legally marry
The finacial aid would be based off of your and her income combined. Having kids helps too. You'll probably end up with more financial aid. My finacial aid is based off of a little less than 55k income and I only pay about $2k per year, the rest is covered by financial aid. It's worth a try.
Your combined net tax return will be considered for financial aid.
Your 1040 will have to be submitted to determine how much financial aid she qualifies for...whatever happens, support her through school--it will be the best for all concerned in the long run.
If she IS currently getting it, she most likely will not get it once she marries because you have a pretty good income. However, the fact that you have children may help her become more qualified. Just fill out that FASFA and see... Plus they have a phone number on the FASFA form to call to ask quesitons like this.
You will change her status financially so wait until she completes her degree to get married and then any aid she received will also be your responsibility and you can help her pay off any student aid not covered by a scholarship.
They'll figure it out by how much you make...if you're applying for federal aid. They'll also figure in the two kids. It shouldn't effect loans through banks though.
I wade wait ,we all no how the garment is. if thy can f ***. you thy will .and you won't Evin get kissed. live it aloe, if thy can find a loop hole.thy well ,f*** you .I no!! .do you remember, all that ,small parent well ,Thar you go?.!
Your income would be counted as hers also. She will lose money.
As long as you file your taxes separately you shouldn't have a problem. It is when you file joint that you will cause problems for yourself and her. And by the way she is going to be your wife and when she finishes school she will be a major contributor to the house so you shouldn't be tripping about having to help pay for her education.

What type of women is suppose to be attracted to married men?

Why do certain women are attracted to these kind of relationships? Even though I've never been in such an affair, I worry about the fact that I find myself thinking that this kind of a relationship would be easy for me. And I don't fantasize about stealing anyone's husband for myself. I don't care about that, I just find that being with someone without actually ';being'; with him to be very comfortable, less fussy. Does that mean I've got intimacy issues? What type of women is suppose to be attracted to married men?
When I was younger, I often found myself attracted to married men...but I realized it was a self-esteem issue. I was choosing someone that I knew I couldn't have - so I didn't have to worry about rejection because he was never a real ';possibility'; anyway. What type of women is suppose to be attracted to married men?
It may seem easier you for in the fantasy but this would be damaging to you , and you're not looking at the overall affect on all the parties involved. Such as promoting the irresponsibility of the man, the effect on the wife or children possibly involved. If this is a reoccurring fantasy and you can't understand the basic tenets of the point of view good or bad of the other parties you might consider some counseling.
No thats just what you prefer!1 There isn't any type (unless your a hoe) thats attracted to married men. Thats where you feel comfortable or secure at...thats all. But try not to get in that situation because its not going to be easy to get out of. Trust me I know.
I dont think this is a matter of ''what type of women'' its more of a personality trait..there are a lot of people that want what they cant have..but if they have it eventually something else would show up in their minds that they may want..

why exactly..? im not sure but it definitely has alot to do with their upbringing and possibly because they usually get what they want when they were younger..
Don't touch married men with barge pole. Think of his wife. How would you feel if you were being cheated on? Also, what kind of man would he be - untrustworthy! I think you think it would be less complicated but he'll be a low life to cheat and you would be also if you were prepaired to think only of yourself and your needs not the poor wife who's husband it was!
maybe you just like the thrill of being bad. i have this problem sometimes. you can borrow my husband, if you like. maybe he'll quit bugging me so much.
Sometimes I like a man who is already married to someone. I still push to see what kind of relationship they have. If they are having problems then why shouldn't I try? Chances are if he will cheat with me, he would have done it with someone else anyway.

If you want to do it, do it.
Ugh... this is so wrong...talking about

wanting to be with a married man?

Ever hear the saying? Go find your OWN man!! lol..
is there a type in general? i don't judge ppl but i would like to say as long you are not harming others to be happy than it is justified.

What is the ideal age for a Woman to get married?

Hello guys, what age do you think a woman should get married? I'm 25 and I'm thinking of getting married around 29, is this a good age? Is a 29 year old woman too old for marriage? What is the ideal age for a Woman to get married?
It's funny that you're planning your age of marriage. Are you engaged or is this just a goal?

I got married just before I turned 26. I don't think we should get married before we turn 25. There are a lot of changes, apparently, that go on for all people in our early 20s. So, with that said, 29 isn't too old. It's a good age. The best rule of thumb is to make sure you're mature enough and you're truly meant to marry the person you're with. Age isn't as important. What is the ideal age for a Woman to get married?
I got married when I was 30.I think that it's good age if your considering this.I've been married now for 25 years and have a 21 year old son.I think that with the divorce rate in our county being so sky high,50-50.Your relationship has much better chance to survive.
there is no ideal age really i was 28 and that was perfect certainly not to old angela
Whenever she is ready! I can't emphasize that enough. There's no magic age. When you find that right person you'll know.

  • If someone got married in the Bahamas, and are still legally married, can they get married again in Jamacia?

If someone were to fake a wedding in Jamaica (just to get married to the person they are already married to, for fun), what would the punishment be, if any?If someone got married in the Bahamas, and are still legally married, can they get married again in Jamacia?
none - it is called ';renewing your vows'; and has no legal weight.

couples do it all the time at significant anniversaries or points in their lives. If someone got married in the Bahamas, and are still legally married, can they get married again in Jamacia?
    There would be no punishment.

You are marrying the same person. It would only be illegal if you were married to one person in the Bahamas and then married someone else in JA

How many people realize homosexuals are already allowed to get married?

According to the Constitution of the US marriage is done by a legal document and therefore they can go to any justice of the peace to be married.

Which means they don鈥檛' need to go to a church and try to make a belief system accept what they are doing as a morally correct thing.

Therefore there is no reason for special laws they already have the right. And it should remain the right of churches not to marry them due to their believes.

How many people are aware of this? And knowing this does it change your opinion if you were for the law itself? How many people realize homosexuals are already allowed to get married?
i do and that is a major problem we are facing these days,How many people realize homosexuals are already allowed to get married?
Servant of which God are you?
You're completely right about churches being free to do as they choose regarding recognition of marriages. After all, what do churches have to do with how probate is administered following the death of a spouse in a gay marriage? Or how communal property laws are applicable in financial or legal matters relating to the couple? Or whether insurance companies extend health coverage benefits to the spouse of a gay person who buys a family insurance plan?

You hit the nail on the head - CHURCHES ARE NOT THE ISSUE. Nothing in the gay marriage arguments has anything whatsoever to do with churches. The issue is legality. Even in Massachusetts, churches and synoguogues and mosques and asrams are free to NOT marry homosexuals.

By focusing on the Constitution and the law, rather than what churches do, you've outlined your position, which is the essence of the argument for homosexual marriage rights. Congratulations on not letting the homophobe spin machine get in the way of your position!
Who cares??? Is it really going to hurt anyone??
Your interpretation of the Constitution in that regard, and the interpretation of the Supreme Court, differ in that regard.
Hey Beavis, you ever hear of this thing called ';laws at the state level';? No? I guess not.
I believe it is the state laws that don't allow them to marry.
not many people, really watch the news, I would say less than 40 %
Why do you think there has been a movement to amend the constitution to more clearly define marriage?

On the state levels there are laws prohibiting gay marriage. I am not sure why we or the government has such a huge interest in how two consenting adults wish to lead their lives or sanctify their relationships. As far as I am concern, if I don't agree with same sex marriage, I will not marry somebody of the same sex. However i have no right to limit their liberties based upon by personal beliefs.
In my state the law will not allow or recognize homosexual unions (marriage). Thankfully, our government had enough courage to determine that homosexuality was behavior immoral and distasteful enough to not deserve the sanctity offered by marriage.
Weather they can or not is irrelevant if they cannot be recognized by the government for the legal benefits of marriage.

    Right of inheritance

    Joint tax returns

Medical decisions when the spouse is incapacitated

    SS survivor benefits
I thought Connecticut and Maine were the only states allowing this. I think gays are entitled to every right and privelge that everyone else on the planet are entitled to. Who are we to judge someone else's lifestyle or sexual preferences? More focus should be put on things that really matter like issues concerning the war, immigration, health care...things that really matter and affect us all. What a shame that these idiots that we all helped to put in office concentrate on such trivial matters instead of the things that mean something, like interfering in matters of the church and state...another unalienable right (choice of religious preferences). If the people of this great country worried more about the tragedies occurring daily that affect each and every one of us instead of the assinine issues being debated, this country (and the world) would be a far better place.
    Everyone is aware of that.
state law prevents gay marriage in most states.
The problem is not the law. The problem is two groups fighting over who is right and wrong. The winner will try to outlaw the other's rights.
There's differences between civil unions and marriage and most people don't understand the laws of their state, let alone the federals laws. In some states, being a gay couple gives you legal rights to assets and benefits under a civil union. So, no you don't need to be married in a church to get the benefits of being married.

This whole controversy is about one group of Americans trying to suppress the rights of another group of Americans and that in itself is unconstitutional and morally wrong. The whole constitution was founded on the basis of not inhibiting the rights of the minority as dictated by the majority.

Same with the prochoice debate, though that's entirely different issue. Remember when Black people drinking from the same water fountains as white people was 'abnormal' and 'wrong'? Remember when women voting was 'morally wrong'?

America is all about the progression of equality and freedom. If you're not hurting anyone, then you should be allowed to conduct yourself, your lifestyle, and your beliefs in any way you choose. All the while having the same rights as the next.

If the only reason the government, state or federal, has for outlawing gay marriage is because of what it says in the Bible...then it shouldn't be an issue, as they have no business standing on that platform. If your religion is against it, or your views are against, you have the right to free speech to voice your opinion against it, but the government can't outlaw it for you. And the government has no right to say churches can't deny marrying gay couples, as the church should have that choice as well.

Marriage is about a commitment to the person you love and choose to share your life with. It is a legal and personal decision and it should be treated that way.
they have the right be be as miserable as the rest of us.
We need entertainment, leave them alone! We also need population control!
Yes, because of separation of religion and state.

And also, because it is also the product of long and hard struggle for equality of rights of the gay movement.

And on some occasions, even if they are not married, same-sex couples assert their equality status with the heterosexuals. This could be seen on some of US jurisprudence like in the case of Braschi vs Stahl Associates, a 1989 case on the issue of eviction of a domestic partner from a rent-controlled apartment in the event of a partner's death. The New York's highest court defined here the term ';family'; as should not be rigidly restricted to those people who have formalized their relationship by obtaining, for instance, a marriage certificate.
Why do you care? Mind your own business if you don't like it.
This is a bunch of crap!

Marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN only!

    1 Man + 1 Woman = Marriage!

We need a Constitutional amendment that will affirm this for certain, and stop people from implementing the abnormal as normal.

Homosexuals do have the same rights as everyone else to marry the opposite sex partner of their choice, but w're not going to change the rules for them, just as we're not going to allow necrohiliacs to marry corpses, or animal lovers to marry their dogs.
what can we do to stop this? even the Churches are allowing ppl to marry same sex......

What is the procedure in filing for a divorce when married to an illegal immigrant?

My aunt wants to get a divorce from an illegal immigrant but she is not sure how to go about. Please answer? What is the procedure in filing for a divorce when married to an illegal immigrant?
Call ICE, tell them you have someone you think is illegal and wanted to do yard work/housekeeping for you...problem solved. What is the procedure in filing for a divorce when married to an illegal immigrant?
The procedure is the same as with anyone else. Did she do anything different when she married him? Makes no difference when she divorces him.
Just like you go about divorcing a natural born citizen. Go down to the court house, pick up the forms, fill them out and file them.
You simply file for what is called a 'no-fault divorce'.
