How did the married mans tax allowance work?

Can anyone tell me what structure the married mans tax allowance took and whether it affected the married woman's tax allowance. How did the married mans tax allowance work?
The married women's tax allowance (WEIA, wife's earned income allowance) used to actually belong to the husband, as married women were chattels, and their income belonged to their husband. The maximum was the same as the single person's allowance, but if earnings were less than that, it was restricted to level of earnings. For example, interest received by the wife would be set against the husband's code number. It was more of the wife's income affecting the husband's tax code than the other way round. A woman would get two allowances in the year of marriage or divorce. One for before, and one after. I did, when I got married in 1970. When that system stopped, women were treated as single people for tax.

For years, married men had a marriage allowance for the wife. They had to be legally married to get it, co-habitees weren't eligible. The allowance was given at the man's highest rate of tax. Norman Lamont stopped that when he was Chancellor. He introduced the 10% allowance, so that all men had the same amount of money in their pocket, irrespective of highest tax rate. Gordon Brown stopped the marriage allowance for all but those born before 05/04/1935, I think in about 1989. You can check dates in http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates , then into archives. How did the married mans tax allowance work?
Originally it worked the same way as the regular personal allowance - a deduction from gross income. Subsequently the increment between the single person's allowance and the married allowance was given as a credit (at basic rate only) against tax liability. In neither case did it affect the married woman's allowance.

  • How to get married in one day in thailand?

I'd like to know which is the best place to go to get married in one day. I need a moslem (muslim) marriage and would like to know services available and costs. How to get married in one day in thailand?
Are you thinking about exporting her? It is FAR easier to get her a tourist visa then marry her in your own country, than getting a spousal visa. If you get married in Thailand first you risk your country taking its sweet time to get her visa, which can take YEARS.

As was said though, a legal marriage is only some paperwork. How to get married in one day in thailand?
I hope you don't marry someone you meet the same day!
I married a moslem here myself it wasn't difficult but it's not legal.

It's good enough for us I'm not interested in what the authorities say is a proper marriage.
A legal marriage in Thailand consists of both parties registering their marriage in person with the local Thai Amphur (Local District Office). But you need to check with the embassy of your country to be sure it recognizes the validity of such a marriage. A religious ceremony could be held however the only official marriage must be registered. An American would need to complete an affidavit have it notarized by the embassy and then you have that document translated into Thai. You then take the completed affidavit to the Legalization Division, Department of Consular Affairs to be legalized. This office charge an additional fee for the form to be legalized on the same day, other wise it takes two days. After the document is legalized you can go to the local Thai Amphur to register your marriage.
Thai marriages are not really 'costly' unless you marry someone Chinese from Bangkok metropolitan part.

Secondly, the whole process of 'securing' and 'engage' ceremonies take a whole day already and you're asking about a day's marriage...

    It's impossible, dude...

How will getting married affect my income tax return?

My fiance and I both make about $22,000 a year. Typically we file a standard single filing for the purpose of taxes (no children, no head of household).

If we were to get married, would it help or hurt our tax returns. What could we expect? How will getting married affect my income tax return?
It depends on if you decide to file jointly or separately. I recommend filling jointly because you'll usually get more money backHow will getting married affect my income tax return?
Filing jointly will generally result in you paying less in taxes. You can still file individually if you wish to.
Won't change things much, might save a few dollars if you file a joint return, but not more than that. It won't hurt you though.

What is the best way to file taxes when getting married, and we both have children from a previous marriage?

My fiance and I have children from another relationship, I have 2 and he has 1. Im concerned when we get married we will have to file jointly and we will lose that extra money. When married can we still file seperate and claim our own children on our taxes. Neither one of us plan on adopting the others children. I get at lest 4-5 thousand and he gets $2000, will we get less back filling together? What is the best way to file taxes when getting married, and we both have children from a previous marriage?
If you file separately neither of you will be eligible for the EIC and filing separately can also exclude or elimination other credits and deductions. Usually it is more beneficial to file Jointly,What is the best way to file taxes when getting married, and we both have children from a previous marriage?
From my experience working with H%26amp;R Block, you will need to try both ways of filing, and use the method that gets you least taxes owed.

In the vast majority of cases, married filing jointly works best.
Work on the joint numbers versus separate filing and see which allows you for lesser tax payable.
You won't have to file a joint return, you can still file separately, but your status would be married filing separately, not single or head of household. You'll almost surely pay less total tax between you if you file a joint return rather than separate returns.

Whether you file jointly or separate, you will still be able to claim the children as dependents, and take the child tax credit if they're young enough. Filing jointly you'd still be allowed to take dependent care credit and EIC if you're eligible - filing separately you could not take either. On a joint return, your EIC eligiblility would be calculated on your joint income - again, if you are married and file separate returns, you don't get EIC.

For tax purposes, it doesn't matter whether you adopt the other's children or not.
You both get so much money back now because you both file as Head of Household. You won't be able to do that if you are married, even if you file seperately.

Next year when tax time rolls around, try it both ways -- married filing seperate, or married filing jointly. I think you will find that filing together will be better than filing seperately
Once you're married, you lose the second ';head of household'; benefits, although there are still various benefits for married couples with dependent children (three between you). As several others said, you need to work out the taxes both ways. For instance, if one of you makes very little and qualifies for various low-income goodies, you could have a benefit to filing separately. However, if you make roughly the same amount (in the same tax bracket), it's probably better to file jointly.

Still, work it out both ways this first year, so you know the issues you're facing. I've been there: dependent step-child, disparate income, and it was *still* better to file jointly.

Your mileage may vary. Void where taxed, regulated, or bearing side effects of drowsiness. Do not take advice while standing in water or near electrical lines. Do not operate this advice while under the influence of PBS. Misuse of this advice may result in serious infamy, or even debt.
You should file jointly. By filing separate you take a bigger hit because only one of you can itemize. On rare occasions filing separately make work, but it's doubtful. If your still not sure trry it both ways and see which one works better. I'm betting that joint will come out much better.
    It's a story...

If I get married, do I become responsible for back taxes my new husband owes?

My new husband needs to file tax returns for years prior to us becoming married. If something goes wrong, could I be held responsible for back taxes he owes prior to our marriage? If I get married, do I become responsible for back taxes my new husband owes?
    Generally, no.

However, if you file jointly in future years, the refund can be applied to the debt. If you live in a few states--such as California--you can't even file the injured spouse form to request your share of the refund. If I get married, do I become responsible for back taxes my new husband owes?
IF you file married and joint and he owes back taxes your joint return can be held to cover those past debts. You have the right to file an innocent spouce form and try to get your portion of the return sent to you (this does not always happen).

I would have him file his prior year returns NOW so if you find out he does owe the money you can make the decision before next tax season about what to do...you have a couple choices:

If you own no property or kids then your best bet might be married filing separatly...it will put you in a slightly higher tax bracket, but the government could not take your money to cover his taxes.

You can file an innocent/injured spouce claim with your taxes and the IRS will investigate to see if any of the debt is yours (which it isn't) when they make the determination they will send your share of your joint return...

Depending on how far back it is that he hasn't filed he might not even owe...just not filing does not mean you owe. If the government has not come after him for any taxes they feel he owes as a result of not filing then he might actually have a refund coming and not know it. The government doesn't care about you if you haven't filed and you have a refund coming because it is like free money for them!
It all depends on the state you live in. If you are living in a community property state, when you marry him, half of what he owns or owes is yours and half of what you own or owe is his. If he owes back taxes and has income during the time you are married, they can offset any refunds that you both have coming.

This is a little over simplified, but you really have to check the state laws for the state you live in.
When I married my husband he didn't know that he owed back taxes due to person who filed his tax return improperly. We are married filing jointly and yes I believe if he owes it then it becomes my debt to pay as well. It was a small burden to pay but it seemed like a big one at the time. I copped a resentment. It took some time to get over. It was worth every penny to me. He is my best friend. He's worth every penny.
No, your not resposible you need to file with an injured spouse form so the IRS won't take your portion of the refund. Or they will apply it to his debt..

How is being married different than dating?

I just want to know how being married is different than just dating? How long have you been married? How is being married different than dating?
The first guy's answer is weird - I'm married and when my wife and I go on a date, we both go home afterward.

It's different than dating because it provides the comforting security of a lifetime commitment. It is therefore a much more relaxed and worry-free relationship than dating.

I have been married for 22 years so far.How is being married different than dating?
Being married, you get to come home to the person you love every night. You have your best friend by your side through thick and thin. You are with the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

Also when dating you can just cut the ties and move on being married, you get a divorce and have to go though who gets what.

For me I love being married. I married my best friend literally we have been best friends since i was 14, I am 24 now. To know that one person wants to spend the rest of their lives with you is an awesome feeling.
Marriage comes with obligation but that obligation should come out of love. With just dating, there is no obligation of any kind.

Marriage allows you to file your taxes together and ';married filing joint'; is the hightest tax bracket, which usually means a bigger return. Dating is irrevelant when filing your taxes.

Marriage, where the mother's last name is same as her husband's, allows your children to automatically take on the father's surname. Dating means you have to file for a name change and can result in a fight if the situation isn't discussed in detail.

Marriage allows you to make decisions regarding your spouses health, such as being taken off life support or approving a particular surgery. Dating doesn't allow you to make any decisions regardless of age and/or how long you've been together, if your state doesn't recognize common law marriages. To tack on to that, obtaining a death certificate or getting money from social security or life insurance is relatively easy when you're married. When you're just dating, it's almost impossible.

There are many other differences but those come to mind off hand.
I have been married 41 years and to this date we do not fuss or fight. If we have a disagreement we talk it out. The difference between dating and getting married is. When you marry you make a commitment and earn security with your mate. When dating there is nothing to hold you together and its like saying I can quit anytime I want. I will not quote scripture but man and woman a instructed to separate from Mother and Father and join together as one. The longer you into a relationship the more you trust and the longer your together the stronger the love builds. Security is the answer I would have to give for being married.
Many, many years. The difference, well for one it is a commitment that is legal on paper, and also it is honoring to God and his plan for the family. The reason why we have so much divorce accepted, teenagers having kids, men screwing everyone they can find, and the entire reason the Jerry Springer show exists is because of the lack of honor and respect for the family unit. Hope this helps. If you have doubt about the person you want to marry, then don't take the plunge. It should be forever, not for a year or a few months like these foolish and bad example celebrities!
Been married 10 years, been together for 12. Marriage is different b/c you have to learn to work through issues, even when you feel like running away. You also have think of your spouse's feelings first before your own and vice versa, to keep a happy union. There is no room for being selfish, and one stupid act of deception or lies, will haunt you for a long time. Where as when you are dating, you can just break up if you are unhappy....marriage you can divorce.....but there are so many more factors to consider, children, fiances etc.
10 years, and the diff is being together every day, no matter what, thats the diff, not too much into it, just that. You have to be very mature to be married, Oh and you get to have sex all the time, unless you get an old ladie who wants it once a day or once a week, lol
I have been dating my wife of 15 years for about 17 years. I still treat her the same way I did then. I open doors, be polite, call her everyday and say I love you, pull her hair out of the toilet when she is puking... LOL

We still do the dating thing and we have been very happy. Being married is fun, but you gotta work at it.
Dating isn't serious or committed. Dating is just fun and games. At the end of a date, you go home. You can date more than one person.

Marriage is a permanent date. It involves day to day crap and learning to put up with it or change it. It means committing to one person.
When you're married there is feeling that you're in it together, like it's the two of you against the world. And when you argue you don't have anywhere to go so you have to really face every issue that comes up head on. It's taught me a lot about myself.

    Married 1 year
You get a pretty ring when you're married ; ) LOL But seriously, When you're dating, everything is exciting and it seems like things speed up, but when you're married everything seems to slow down.
There isn't enough room on your screen for me to tell you the differences. Just know, everything is different!!!

Some good different, some bad different.

married 12 years and still counting........
    Dating - 70% Committed

Married - 100% Committed (Becos the law says so)
u together 24 /7 now its gonna b different give it time ....not married but been together 30 years
    dating is all about you

marriage is all about your spouse, which you enjoy!
Commitment. There's no revolving exit door.
How is owning different than renting?
When dating you get to go home after the date.

    Married 25 years

    Divorced 5 years

    I like dating
    Haha...ha...ha...sigh...
well decision making is a two person job you, your together all the time you share your space

She does not file a tax return quarterly. She does or should send an estimated payment toward her tax liability on a quarterly basis. This is the same thing as you as an employee having money withheld from your pay. At the end of the year you file a joint return and use your withholding and her estimated payments to off set any liability you may jointly have.I just go married and my wife is an independent contractor who will be filing her taxes quarterly.?
You still file jointly at the end of the year. This is almost always preferable to filing separately, but check out your particular circumstances. We are in a similar situation and we do our taxes ourselves with the most popular software for it, and one good thing for us to was fill out the forms for filing each way and then see how we came out on each one before deciding.
I am in the same situation. I think you are confused. She doesn't file her taxes quarterly, she pays her taxes quarterly. You pay yours monthly.

You will both fill your taxes yearly so you can do the joint with no problems at all.

  • How to get married in Malaysia to a Malaysian when you are in a work permit?

And when your passport date and place of birth is different with your original birth certificate? ...Am from Phils. How to get married in Malaysia to a Malaysian when you are in a work permit?
Your marriage to a Malaysian person will not affect your work permit. There is no need to produce your birth certificate unless you are below 21 years old but you will need a declaration of your marital status (single /divorced /widowed) from the Philippines. You can find the list if required documents here :

http://www.moha.gov.my/eng/3rdLevel.asp?鈥?/a>How to get married in Malaysia to a Malaysian when you are in a work permit?
How did you get a passport with different date and place of birth than your birth certificate? The Philippines requires an NSO copy of your birth certificate before they will issue a passport to you. And then you also have to have an NBI report for travel and all of those have to match.
Execute an affidavit showing the correct data to match the passport and birth certificate.

How can an engaged couple keep credit file seperate once married?

One of us has a foreclosure on credit report, other one has perfect credit. We are about to get married and want to buy a house. Is it possible to get married and not have to show other spouse's credit for loans? How can an engaged couple keep credit file seperate once married?
Each person has their own credit report. It's a law. The report does not contain marital status. It's illegal for a creditor to even ask if you're married.

If you apply for a loan as coborrowers, then both reports get checked. If only one of you is signing for the loan, then only that persons credit will be checked. How can an engaged couple keep credit file seperate once married?
Buy it in your name and your name only. Dont include the other person in the your credit cards. Dont authorize each other on credit cards. You dont have to ';report'; to all credit agencies that you are married. The one who has perfect credit will assume all the risk. The other one will be an authorized user. If you get divorced, it is a legal mess. The person who buys the house buys it in his/her name. The other one is just an occupant. So are cars and credit cards.

I think you can say you are buying your house for yourself and assuming all the financial risk and/or payment for the house. Your spouse has nothing to do with it.
Lourvd is correct, for now if you are going to purchase a house, you will have to purchase it on your own, and qualify. If your income is not enough then you will have to consider your finacee, and then the credit will merge. I suggest you choose between be able to qualify for the loan yourself, or waiting and straightening out your significant other's personal credit and then buying it together.
As long as you don't apply for joint credit, your reports will remain separate. The spouse with the perfect credit will have to earn enough money to qualify for the mortgage, the other spouse's income can't be considered. Also, check your state laws, the other spouse may have to sign away their homestead rights.

Hilarious. You don't ask the question';what does a guy like his spouse to be like';..... you would rather force someone to choose one of the answers YOU would prefer.

Asking your husband to pick one of YOUR CONTROLLED CHOICES is like going to a restaurant and being forced to order from the controlled choices on the menu.

How about a wife who takes repsonsibilty to DO THE HOUSEWORK -- AND -- NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT HER HUSBAND.

He married you to make YOU happy.

    Now its YOUR turn.

Did that ever cross your mind????

    Cheers.
All men are different. You cannot base how you should behave around your husband on the opinions of how we think he feels. Ask him. And ask him long before you marry so you will know if he is the one for you.

A wife who does all the household work but doesn't complain

I am newly married with a baby. I love my family but cannot stop thinking about an ex. Not all - just one in particular. Is this normal curiousity? How offen do married guys think about ex girlfriend?
it semi normal as your life has just turned upside down and your probably missing how things used to be.... but whatever you do DO NOT let your wife see you looking for her or anything... shes going through a very emotional time right now and postpartum depression can be very easily triggered.... she is feeling fat and unwanted... because her body has changed so much and seeing something like this could make her feel that you don't ';want'; her anymore

I'm getting married in October and need some ideas for an outdoor country wedding?

I am getting married next October (2009) and need some great ideas for an outdoor country wedding reception menu. Our reception will be classy southern (not cowboy) and I want to know what I should put on the menu. We are going to have iced tea and lemonade (in beautiful jugs) and lots of alcohol of course. Along with the wedding cake we are doing different pies and southern style candies.I'm getting married in October and need some ideas for an outdoor country wedding?
different chicken and rib dishes, there are so many ways those dishes can be prepared in order to make it look classy not trashyI'm getting married in October and need some ideas for an outdoor country wedding?
I really love your ideas. I would really enjoy going to this wedding with what you've said so far. So unique and personal.

I would do southern meat dishes, like ribs, BBQ, chicken, etc. Stick to the basics, but hire a caterer that can make the meals more upscale, but still down-home delicious. Mashed potatoes, cornbread, baked beans. Any good caterer can make all that appropriate for a wedding.

Of course, you'll also need to plan for a vegetarian dish as well just in case, but I think the southern menu is the way to go here. It will really make this reception complete.
You could have someone make a huge pot of chicken and rice, with corn on the cob and potato salad. Then make several different pies. Apple, sweet potato and pumpkin.
ummm the best bet is to do a search in google for themed recipes. then tell your caterer to make it or have whoever make it.
I think like a little country picnic would be cute. corn, potato salad, fried chicken, ect. goes great with the sweet tea and lemonade

I don't live in San Diego, but I know there must be some lovely beaches there that you could use. Also, isn't there a nice Mission there, and if there is, there must be a pretty extravagant chapel too? That may not work if you're not super religious though.

There are many beautiful resorts in San Diego that are lovely for weddings. A couple of my favorites are:

Hotel del Coronado - Coronado island. This is a historic hotel right on the beach, just beautiful if you like being right on the beach.

Hilton Hotel La Jolla California 鈥?Torrey Pines. This is a 4 star hotel on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, next to a golf course and Torrey Pines Preserve. Very nice hotel and fantastic views.

Umm are you trying to tell us that you are a little over weight and that the lady on the next block is flirting with you and now you want to lose a little weight because you like her flirting. Well since you are married, if you can, how about now going near that womans block.I know you like the flirting but it will only lead to head aches. I mean I know if feels good that another woman finds you attractive and there is nothing wrong with that but make sure that flirting is as far as it goes or this time next year you will be asking us where can you get a divorce lawyer. When the lady flirts just say ';Thank you'; and keep walking. Don't saying something like, yeah you are looking good yourself. This will only encourage her and she will think that you are interested.
If a man truly loves his wife then no matter what flirtatious woman

comes along, he will ignore her and put her in her place. Had an

experience with a woman that was a friend of my wife, and we all

went dancing, and while dancing she told me how much she likes the

way I treated my wife and wanted to know if I could give her some of

that treatment as she liked me, and I put her in her place by saying

that I love and respect my wife and no other woman could change

that, and having said that needless to say she was ready to sit

down. She even asked me if I had a girlfriend as that would not be

anythng wrong to have one, and I told her again that I was not into

that.So a true man to his true woman can put other women in their

    places.
When I was married and this happened, I would immediately bring up my (ex) wife in the conversation immediately. i.e.:1. ';Can I ask you a question? I am blessed to have the most wonderful wife in the world. I bought present and it's a necklace do you think she'll like it?; or 2. ';I can't wait to get home, my wife and I are going out to dinner and dancing.'; Just anything that makes clear that: you love her and you feel lucky to be with her. It never failed and I made my point clear that I was not interested without being rude. I had one woman after I said that put her hand on my leg (we were sitting at work) and ask if I could join her for lunch. I responded, ';thanks but I'm going to eat this afternoon, my wife makes a delicious meal';. She got the idea.

The key is if you don't open the door even a crack you don't have to close it or worry about it opening any further.
if my husband feels a woman is hitting on him he can get pretty rude about it. a cashier once told him how cute he was in street clothes (she usually saw him in work clothes) and he snapped at her that he is married. and he yelled at a girl at the bar for pinching his butt.

i would think your neighbor of course knows your married, so if she seems to be too friendly or flirtatious i would not be around her anymore. and if you really want her help with the diet then i would have her over when wife is home to keep the woman at bay. whatever you do it's best not to hang out with this woman alone. and you should perhaps talk to your wife about it.
I have a few women that flirt with me on a regular basis, I tell them I am happily married but am flattered but that I know a person that is single and would be a good guy for her and try to set them up..works every time.
What you are not going to eat, do not smell. If you are not interested, leave now and let her know immediately
answer Your own questing how do you deal with someone flirting with you
Do what I do give her sex

How would getting married affect this scholarship?

The scholarship is a full scholarship to the school (covers room and board, tuition, books, meal plan for the student, everything). It is based on financial need, leadership, community service, and an interest to stay in-state after graduation. The school has no married housing anymore due to expansion plans. Since both people are students, they have a low income.

This is all hypothetical. How would getting married affect this scholarship?
Hypothetically speaking, different scholarships have different requirements. You would need to check with the scholarship or your school's financial aid office. We don't know what they consider financial need and we don't know how great your need will be after you get married.

Clearly it would not cover your student housing if you choose to live with your spouse since you can't live on campus. How would getting married affect this scholarship?
Don't get married until after college :)

What would your taxable income be if you are a married father supporting a wife and four kids?

Let's say you make $6.15 per hour and work 60 hours a week for 50 weeks of the year. Your gross would be: 70 (60 plus 10 for overtime) times 6.15 times 50, or $21,525.00.

Also, what would your social security deductions be?What would your taxable income be if you are a married father supporting a wife and four kids?
For 2007 or 2008, his taxable income would be $0.00. His FICA/MC tax would be $1,647. The couples earned income credit would be $3,845, assuming at least two of the children are young enough. If all 4 children were 16 or younger, his child tax credit would be $4,000.

He would have a net credit of $6,198.What would your taxable income be if you are a married father supporting a wife and four kids?

  • How much housing benefit and council tax benefit is a married man on JSA entitled too?

Just like to know please. Theres no point in ranting at me to get a job because this is just a random question.

Thanks. How much housing benefit and council tax benefit is a married man on JSA entitled too?
Hi I work for benefits, there is no way to tell you how much you could get without knowing all your details, how much rent you pay, do you privately rent if so are you under 25 also your BRMA area and LHA rate etc etc. For council tax you would qualify for full benefit (all of your council tax paid) however rent is a lot more tricky as there are a lot of if's and's and but's in benefit legislation, the only people who could really give you an accurate figure is your local councilHow much housing benefit and council tax benefit is a married man on JSA entitled too?
its depends on what type of JSA you are on. If you are on Income based JSA your entire eleigible rent and council tax will be covered.

If its contribution based it might be the same but we would need to consider what other income was going into the house from partner etc and any savings and so on. We would need more information.

Nice idea to ask the Job Centre but they will NOT be able to answer you they do not have the skills
It depends where in the county you live and if you're living in local authority housing.

if no one else in your household works....

If you are in local authority housing, the whole rent will be paid.

As i understand it, if you are living in privately rented accommodation the amount depends on the amount of rooms that you are classed to need (based on the number of people in you household) and the local rent rates in your area

have a look on you city/county councils website where it should be explained
    Hi!

This is just a random answer:

Wouldn't your advisor at the job centre be able to calculate it for you?

If he's under 30, than yes, he's not sure about the future. That's when men reach full maturity. You reached it at age 24. If he is, give it time. Also, remember that all men are very stressed right now with 80% of all layoffs being men. The future is vague. Just don't make him a father until he is ready to say I Do. Force him into fatherhood and you could really lose out.
You can't. How old is he? If he is relatively young maybe he just has some growing up to do, but if he really doesn't want to ever get married then it may be best for you to move on. Tell him what your goals for the relationship are, and if his don't match in the long run, you have some thinking to do.
Have you discussed it with him at all? Honestly do you really want to marry someone that you had to convince to marry you? This is something that should feel natural and right for both parties. I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, it might just be a lack of communication for the two of you. Good Luck
Talk it through with him but do not pressure him into it. I know from experience that if they are not ready they will end up regretting you one day and that is the last thing that you need.

When you get married is the slate wiped clean?

My husband and I just got married 2 days ago. On our wedding day a family member said ';its like a new beginning everything that happened before is out the window'; meaning some of the things we did to each other in the past. Is the slate really wiped clean when you get married? When you get married is the slate wiped clean?
If the marriage vows inspire you both to behave better, then it could be wiped clean. As long as both of you agree to let the past be past, and never bring up old baggage again. But you have to work at it. Whatever you both did to each other, could happen again if you don't try to act better from now on.When you get married is the slate wiped clean?
Good gracious, no! Whatever those things you did to each other in the past are, the ';slate'; ONLY gets wiped clean through continued effort and commitment; marriage doesn't mean squat. What you guys did is what you did, and it will never go away.
Actually that's when the slate begins, you keep adding to the slate. Good luck and congrats.:)
Yup, he is off the hook from everything. Oh, and I guess you too.
It all depends on how the two of you act. If you always put the other first and resist the temptation toward selfishness that we all have, then your slate can be wiped clean. Marriage is more than just living together and being ';legitimate.'; It works best when you always think of the other person's feelings, likes and dislikes, and needs ahead of yours. As long as both of you do that, you will each be fulfilled and you'll avoid the resentment that can creep into marriage when you continue to think of yourself as autonomous. Once you're married, you're not just you--you are both part of one relationship, like you are one person. It won't always be easy, and I guarantee you will both have moments where the past rears up and you're tempted to hold a grudge or point fingers, but you need to resist it, put it far out of your mind, and focus on the present. You can't change the past. You CAN make every day in the present count toward a great, lasting marriage. Congratulations and best wishes to you both!
Congrats. Getting married is the beginning of your new life as a united couple, yes. However, it most definitely does not erase your past. Your past is what makes you who you are! It is the beginning of experiencing your past, present and future together. In some cases your past does come back to haunt you, but that's partly why you have a partner to help eachother deal with it, live in the present and look forward to your future, together.
    GOOD LUCK
    I'm gonna have to agree with ';matt';..on this one.. GOOD LUCK!!.. their will be a new slate their ';could be good could be bad!';

What should my filing status be , If I just got married in June and my wife doesn't work?

Also can I claim her as a dependent? Just need a little help with what I should file at the end of the year ?What should my filing status be , If I just got married in June and my wife doesn't work?
Your filing status would be ';Married Filing Jointly'; and claim two exemptions (yourself and your spouse). I just read some of the earlier answers and do not pay attention to classy granny. You can not file as ';Head of Household';. You only have two choices and it is either ';Married Filing Separately'; or ';Married Filing Jointly';. Married filing Separately is the least desirable filing status. If you use any other status that you will have a ';fraudulent return';. The key date is this: What is your martial status as of Dec 31, 2007?What should my filing status be , If I just got married in June and my wife doesn't work?
Married. Head of household. If she doesn't work you have 2 dependents. Her and yourself.
If your wife doesn't work you will certainly be better off filing a joint return. By filing jointly you will get an exemption for yourself and your wife. Thus, claiming your wife as a dependent and taking a third exemption is NOT allowed.
Your choices are filing a joint return, or filing as married filing separately. You'd almost surely pay less tax if you file a joint return. That doesn't mean that both of you have income - you can file jointly even if only one of you works.

You can't claim her as a dependent - a spouse can never be claimed as a dependent. But you do get an exemption for each of you.
You may file jointly or separately. You'll nearly always pay less tax by filing a joint return. Your wife does not need to work for you to file a joint return.

Assuming that you file a joint return you will get 2 personal exemptions, one for each of you. You cannot claim her as a dependent.
You can file either as married filing jointly or as married filing separately, but your taxes will be less filing jointly.
You can file as Married Filing Separately or Married Filing Jointly. For you the best option is Married Filing Jointly.
You've more or less answered your own question without realizing it. Yes she is your depedendent and your filing status will be married filing together with a deduction for 2

    being the result.

Now taking a step backward, the W4 form your employer has currently reads what single 1 deduction? more than likely. Ok that means they are taking more they they should. What that will translate to is a hefty refund which perhaps is the result you want. On the other hand you can change that W4 form at anytime to read married and than select the deduction amount from 0 to 2 so you have some lee way to sort of tailer how much you want. So you have to think about that one I'm sure. But get to your HR department and get that W4 form changed ASAP it will free up a few $$ for you on your take home pay.

    Em
Your choices are Married Filing Joint or Married Filing Separate.

Your spouse is almost NEVER considered a dependent of the other spouse!

On the front of the 1040 check of the filing status then in the Exemptions check of ';Yourself'; and ';Spouse'; if MFJ (or just ';You'; if MFS.

You would put nothing under dependents unless you had children or other dependents living with you.

I just got married we plan to buy a mobile home what are the advantages and disadvantages?

I just got married we are planning to buy a mobile home since it's very hard to buy a home now in this days we live in the bay area of california what are the good and bad things about buying a mobile home we are a first time buyer? What about pets are pets allowed in a mobile home park. Any advise thanks in advanceI just got married we plan to buy a mobile home what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Mobile homes offer a lot of pros and cons. For price they can not be beat. They are also cheaper to maintain then a traditional home. However, unless you put them on your own land they will lose value every year that you own it, unlike a traditional home. As for pets, that is up to each park, some here in Pa. allow only small pets, nothing over 35 lbs, others no dogs at all, and others do not care but charge an additional fee for each pet. If you can buy a small piece of land to put the trailer on, have a full basement attached to it. The price is usually very cheap, under $20,000. but will double your living space and a lot of states will then re-title it as a rancher, no longer a trailer and the value of it will start to go up. There is a lot of very nice ones out there, good luck.I just got married we plan to buy a mobile home what are the advantages and disadvantages?
I had a friend who bought a mobile home as their first home. They got a really high interest rate even with good credit, because the lending company does not consider a mobile home a stable home with a foundation, therefore making it a high risk loan.

P.S. don't forget you may also have to pay rental fees at a mobile home park.

    good luck
unless you buy your own lot to put it on (and then you need to get al the electrical and plumbing connections--a real hassle) you will likely be renting the lot on which it sits from a trailer park. in some cases the lot rent is higher than your mortagage on the trailer. it could be 500 dollars a month or more just for the lot rental, and thats money down the drain.

also the appreciation on trailer value is either very low or nil. you may end up being lucky just to get what you paid for it.

you will never make money in real estate if its mobile homes.

as an investment, they are not good

but as an affordable alternative to buying a regular house it may be the only way some people can afford to go. At least it will be your own home that you own and can do whatever you like to it.

just beware of those lot rental prices.

also keep in mind that the bank may not give you a good interest rate on a mobile home mortgage.

one advantage is that most if not all of the outdoor maintenance will be handled by the trailer park authority

as far as pets are concerned, each park has its own regulations, some are pet friendly and some arent. some allow only small pets.

as an investment in your future as newlyweds, i would encourage you to strive to buy a regular house. i know the down payment and mortgage approval is tough, but even in just a few years you will already have earned 10-25% increase in value.
We purchased a mobile home about 6 yrs ago new and lived in it for 3 years. We went cheap. The mobile home new, on the lot, was $30k.

    3 beds, 2 bath.

    1. Don't scimp on the flooring. I replaced the carpet and vinyl after 2 yrs.

    2. The roof has to be asphalt shingle. Especially if you get snow. They put no gutters on the metal roof and the runoff channel is pathetic.

    3. Phone outlets and cable. There were none. I had to put them in.

Good luck. I will never buy another trailer.

Oh yeah, after 3 yrs we sold it for $26k in Topeka Kansas.
Hi, I had a mobile home once, kept it for one week, then sold it and lost money. It was quite a bad experience for me. It was what we call a roulotte, or a caravan, here in Europe, I suppose it must be the same thing. I couldn't have a good bath and I hate to bath in public bathrooms in the camping parks, I don't knw who was there before me, maybe someone with diseases. Then I couldn't have sex, because everybody around in the other caravans would hear, then I couldn't prepare a decent breakfast in that minusculous kitchen, and to end up there were spiders everywhere. Use your money in a five stars hotel holyday, and go live with your parents or your in laws if they are nice. bye!
    Advantage- Low move in cost/affordability

    Disadvantage- trailer park stereotype

    Advantage- Low maintenance

    Disadvantage- fast depreciation.

    Advantage- No yard maintenance

Disadvantage- No yard for a pet. Most parks allow small dogs and cat.

    Disadvantage- Close proximity to neighbored.

Disadvantage- Limited parking for your cars

Disadvantage- Friends have to park in ';VISITOR'; parking area. How close are you to it?

Disadvantage- Stereotype. No matter how nice it is it is still a ';trailer park';!!

Advantage- Loan interest is tax deductible

    Disadvantage- High interest rates

If you are married in a community property state and your spouse did not file a tax return can you be charged?

Does the innocent spouse law protect you from prosecution in a case like this ?If you are married in a community property state and your spouse did not file a tax return can you be charged?
Your question betrays a misunderstanding of which way is up.

Innocent spouse issues arise only in the context of a joint return. If your spouse did not file a return but you did, there is no innocent spouse issue to address and no crime on the part of the spouse that filed. If you are married in a community property state and your spouse did not file a tax return can you be charged?
Ca is a community property state. Half of your spouses income is counted to you and vice versa. You should have filed married joint with him or married separately. If you file separately you have to count half his income. They are not going to go out and prosecute you for missing a tax year. You will, however, have to pay any penalties and interest accumulated.
Did you report all of your income on a separate return?

    Do you live apart?

    Did you share income information?

There are some circumstances where you can argue that you shouldn't have to recognize half of his income.
If you filed as ';Married filing separately'; then you have fulfilled your filing obligation.

How to get married while your fiance is in prison?

I was wondering how I would set the arrangements to marry my fiance while he is in prison..And everyone please do me a favor and don't judge me because you don't know me and you have no right..I am just looking for someone to help me out in the step I have to go through to get it all set up so I can marry the man of my dreams!! Thank you.How to get married while your fiance is in prison?
hi, i would call the prison and ask them how do you go about marrying an inmate (if you can it depends on the prison, the one my cousin was in did not allow it). if it is possible then ask them what all you need to do to make that happen. also what are the do's and dont's (like if you were going to have a bouquet they may not allow the pins that secure the ribbon, etc) just call and talk to them and make sure you get all the details. good luck and i hope everything works out for you. like the other person said that's very admirable of you for sticking by your man. hope all works out for you.How to get married while your fiance is in prison?
You may have to apply for a special license for that. I think your best bet is to discuss it with the prison warden and possibly the prison chaplain too. You may want to ask about 'conjugal visiting' for after too.

I hope he's only in for a 'minor' offence and comes out a reformed man. It's good you're sticking by him but would be a waste for you both if your whole marriage is spent in visiting rooms!

    All the best.
I love how easy it is to judge a stranger! None of us know why this guy is in jail and just because people go to jail doest mean they should be written off! Dont presume that someone who made a bad choice will continue to make them again and again. Who hear can say they've never made a bad choice and if they have I hope you've learned from it just like this guy will.

Talk to the jail, I'm sure this goes on a lot. However, if it were me, I would wait for him to get out if possible. That way your friends and family will be there and I think the memory would be nicer. Think of telling this story to your kids.

    Good luck!
You can't. People in prison do not have the same rights as normal citizens - and that includes the right to get married. You have to wait until he is released.

But depending on why he is in prison, I would think very, very seriously about jumping into marriage.
You, THe man of your dreams and the chaplin (prehaps the warden) should get together and talk about that. My friend got married in prison awhile back so someone could go see him. Not to seem judgemental but this is a step you should think highly about. People go to prison becuause they cant make good decisions. So they get out and make those same bad choices. Ive been there.. And Ive seen family and friends in prison. So... most guys in prison just use girls on the outside, whne you get locked up its just you...so... like if your sending him alotta money or something then yeah.. hes probably using you. however some girls like that. So good luck in getting married and living happily ever after
your best bet would be to contact the prison itself. They would have all of the information that you would need. It really does depends on the state, and the prison itself. Some don't allow their inmates to marry.

    good luck.
i wouldnt know but i'm sure there are people who run the prison who would be able to help you. i admire you sticking by your man and wish you alot of happiness. i hope his prison stay isnt too long.
get arreseted honey... I am sure you and dream man will live happily ever after in a 2x4 cell...

Do atheists get married in a different way than religious people?

I don't really know anything about marriage, but I thought that when people were getting married they read from the Bible and were married by a preacher. Wouldn't this not be binding for an atheist, since they don't believe in God? Just out of curiosity, again I don't know much about marriage.Do atheists get married in a different way than religious people?
    Not in a church

Marriage is civil in most countries, and you can have a religious 'layer' added to it - but without the non-religious bit it's not legally binding.

You have readings - just not religious ones. You have songs - not hymns. The person who conducts the ceremony is not a religious person.

All very similarDo atheists get married in a different way than religious people?
They get married in a non-religious establishment such as a registry office, and are married by a judge or a registrar. Marriage is a legal contract, before it is a religious contract. If people get married in a religious establishment for example a church, and are married by vicar or a priest, they still have to have it registered at the registry office, in order for it to be legally recognized.
I've seen several of both, so the main difference (not counting a Catholic marriage that includes Mass), is that there are no Biblical readings and no mentioning of God.

The person conducting the wedding may or may not be an actual preacher as many ministers are more than willing to perform non-religious ceremonies.

There are many beautiful and elaborate ceremonies that have nothing to do with religion, and I've also known religious people to get married at the county administrators office due to a lack of funds.
There are two marriages. The first is the one where a couple declares themselves married in a religious ceremony and is sanctioned by some religious or another. The other marriage is the one recognized by the state which is licensed and determines how property ownership and other legal matters influence the life of the couple.
People who get married without the religious rituals, are just as married, and just as happy without all of the claptrap, and expense of a big overdone church wedding for a couple, who will get divorced five years later down the road , because they are not suited to each other, nor sexually compatible, and not happy!!

I got married in front of Justice of the peace 39 years ago, and we are still married!

    Wow! what a surprise!

We also slept together first, to make sure we would be satisfied!!

But then again it is different strokes for different folks! You get what you put time and effort in, to get in any good relationship!

Marriages don't need god to work!

They need people willing to give 100%, and take 100%, Nothing more, nothing less!!

Wait until you find someone that you can't live without, or be happy without!
Marriage is a civil as well as potentially a religious ceremony. You get a license from the state, NOT a church. Any religious aspect may be added depending upon your beliefs, but the actual marriage MUST be licensed by the state to be legal.

I'm curious, though: how do you believe Jews get married? They don't read from Bibles...
I've been at many non-religious marriage ceremonies. Lots of it is the same - bride in wedding gown, groom in suit, someone officiating. Even the music is the same in lots of cases.

Only difference is there are no prayers, and it's not conducted by a religious leader.
When my wife and I married, the ceremony was performed by a friend of ours who just happened to be a former Presbyterian minister. We wrote our own vows, and they made no mention of any supernatural entities.

As far as the ';binding'; part goes, it really has more to do with the marriage being acknowledged as LEGALLY binding by all the requisite governmental agencies, so that we can get tax breaks, insurance benefits, and all that jive. And THAT has more to do with simply filling out and filing the proper paperwork at the county courthouse.
I've never heard of people reading from the bible, even when it's a church wedding.

No, you don't have to get married by a preacher. A justice of the peace can preform your ceremony, and the wedding itself can take place just about anywhere. My brother and his wife rented out a country club for their ceremony, and my best friend was married on a gazebo on the beach. Both weddings were officiated by judges.

Marriages aren't legally recognized just based on the fact that they were preformed in a church, anyway. City Hall gives you your official marriage license, regardless of what you believe. Without that, your marriage is in name only.
This atheist got married by a priest, in a church. That's what my wife want, so that's what I did. No biggie.

As for the Christian aspect of the vows, you are correct: I don't consider there to be any supernatural bindings to an imaginary friend in my marriage.

However, the vows I made to my wife are binding.
Yes, we have secular services in which vows are exchanged, the wedding goes on a usual and we sacrifice good Christian children before the banquet. ;) just kidding.

The service isn't much different, there just isn't any praying or mention of gods, only devotion and love of family.
The priest is just the middle man that signs the marriage license as a witness then turns it in to the state, and the bible is just one of his accessories. Atheists just cut out the middle man.

Did it occur to you that Christians aren't the only religious peoples in this country? How did you think they accommodate all the obscure tiny religions that occupy this country?
It's called a justice of the peace, hello. All you need for a marriage to be binding is a piece of paper called a marriage license. In some states, you don't even need that; you need only agree to be married (it's called common law marriage).
I did. I married a Christian woman, and we had to find a preacher that would marry her to an atheist. I found the whole situation hilarious. I told my wife I didn't care who we had do it. I'd tell the nutjob I was a Christian and solve the problem. :)

    We're not married anymore. :)
    Marriage is a legal institution.

If the only thing ';binding'; two religious people together is their mutual belief in fairy tales, that's truly sad...
The Bible is optional. How do you think people of non-Christian beliefs get married?

My official marriage was done at the drive-thru in Vegas. I was married in a limo by a guy hanging out a tiny window. He said, do you take him? I said yes. He said, do you take her? He said yes. We signed a paper. The end.

My family-wedding (a handfasting) was a little more traditional, but there was no Bible present. We said vows, we exchanged rings, we drank wine, we sang, and then we went to dinner.
Yes they get married in the registry office in front of real people because they think it is waste of time to get married in front unreal/imaginary god. They do not want to fool them-selves.
You know we're talking about religion in my Human Geography class and I really don't know. Come to think of it--I know I can ask Mara--but how do Jewish people get married? Huh. LOL. Yeah I really don't know. Sorry. Have fun with this one.
Marriage is a civil contract. You need a license from the state and a justice of the peace can marry you. No preacher is necessary.
They usually just have a non-religious ceremony, one presided over by a justice-of-the-peace or some other non-religious figure certified to preform marriage ceremonies.
Marriage is a pagan, NOT CHRISTIAN, tradition. It was one of many things integrated into Christianity to get people to believe.
They get married by a justice of the peace in a non religious building. Personally I'm getting married in a park.
they could get married in the town hall or just get a marriage certificate the whole church thing is just a ceremony.
I married my Catholic wife at our local county building. Religion has nothing to do with how two people come together. Unless of course, that is your tradition. It is not mine.
They make their vows to each other, and there are secular people who are licensed to perform marriages. The rest of the details are up to the couple.
I got married in a little wedding chapel by a retired preacher. We just had him leave out the religious stuff.
    *Palm face*

How'd you think the billions of people who aren't Christian marry?
    No.

Can I file taxes this year if I am a married unemployed college student?

I got married in August 2007 but my husband is not a US citizen yet as we are going through immigration. I did not work and was a full-time student getting grants, perkin loans, and unsubsidized loans. Can I file taxes this year in order to get the economy boost check? It's the first year I haven't worked and I feel like I'd like to contribute to the economy and this would really help me. I got some sort of W Forms from the university because of my loans. Can I file taxes this year if I am a married unemployed college student?
Though this doesn't answer your question directly, I can answer this: I (an american citizen) am married to someone who isn't an american citizen either. They can actually get a tax ID # from the IRS and pay taxes - even if they are illegally here in the USA. My husband has one and pays his taxes with me every year. If he worked, he does have to file. The IRS only wants their money and they care less about legal status - citizen or not.Can I file taxes this year if I am a married unemployed college student?
If you don't have at least $3000 of earned income for 2007, and you don't pay at least $300 in taxes for the year, you aren't eligible for the rebate.

But I admire your patriotism in wanting to help contribute to the economy by having the government give you money to spend.

You got some sort of W forms? What? You'd have gotten a form showing your tuition and fees, and grants, but the form wouldn't have had a W in it.
According to some schloarships, loans and grants you must file a return. You also may be eligible for earned income credit. Also if your husband is an permanent resident alien and has a social security number to work you may be able to file jointly. The school sent you a form stating how much tuition that you paid and you can use that as a credit or a deduction on your return.
you dont file taxes if you dont work taxes are just for people on payrolls.

Why would a married man lie steadfastly to his wife when he breaks something?

My husband breaks things around the house at times, as we all do, but when questioned about what happened, he lies to the bitter end, denying that he did it. I am not the kind of person who would make a big deal out of it or criticize his clumsiness. I just don't understand why he would fabricate a story that makes no sense to cover for his accidents.

Can anyone help me to understand him?Why would a married man lie steadfastly to his wife when he breaks something?
maybe he really got in trouble when he broke things as a kid and it's just created an ';I didn't do it!'; pattern in him.

When you absolutely know he did it, I'd just say ';listen, I know your broke it. I'm not mad at all that you broke something. What upsets me is that you feel you need to lie to me about it. Is there something that I'm doing that makes you feel you have to lie to me about it? It makes me wonder what else you lie to me about and I don't like that feeling so I'd like to fix whatever it is that is making you want to lie about it. It is really important to me that we are honest with each other'; and then invite a conversation on it.Why would a married man lie steadfastly to his wife when he breaks something?
How was his relationship with his mother growing up? I'd bet he was the same way and is avoiding 'punishment' or by lying his mother let him get away with it. Guys that were Momma's Boys while growing up tend to keep some behaviors with their wives. Ask his mom/dad or brother/sister is this was true when he was growing up if you have that type of relationship with them. If not, sit him down and tell him you need an honest answer.
how does he act when he lies? can you give us an example?

it is possible that he had a controlling mother as a child. if she was on his case about everything, he would probably come up with little fibs so she wouldn't nag him.

i guess just talk to him about it. tell him you won't get mad, you just want the truth and telling lies doesn't accomplish anything.
If he is an older man. Then this could be a sign of a health problem. If for some reason his mind isn't clear. Then this could be why he is breaking things and forgetting that he broke them.

You should consider the possibility he might believe that he is telling you the truth.
Your husband is a liar. This is serious if your husband feel the need to fabricate something so simple what happens when it really is a big deal? I couldn't be comfortable with not knowing my husband lies.
If a man can break something he can also do the fixing. Maybe he will tell a lie if he cannot fixing the broken piece.
nope.... can't offer you a clue.... I have no idea who he is.... and apparently you don't either.

some people just can't accept responsibility.
Makes me question what bigger things he might be lying about.
He feels as he would get reprimanded for something that he feels was an accident.
Because his mom used to beat him for it.
He's afraid of you. Tell him to grow a spine.
Natural reactions is I didn't do it.
well .. just let it go as he wont tell you the truth any way.. but to fix it is to keep him out side ..like a dog ..

Ladies, as a married woman is it appropriate for you to be voluntarily massaged by a male friend or coworker?

How about if your husband is massaging a female friend or coworker, appropriate?Ladies, as a married woman is it appropriate for you to be voluntarily massaged by a male friend or coworker?
All my exes would have had a conniption fit. If they were ever massaged by a female friend or co-worker, they were smart enough to not let me know about it. It's highly inappropriate.Ladies, as a married woman is it appropriate for you to be voluntarily massaged by a male friend or coworker?
I think it depends on the context. I mean, a friend massaging the tension out of the shoulders when in pain is perfectly acceptable. I think it would also be acceptable if the friend was a professional masseuse and simply doing his job. In both of those cases, it would either be doing a favor or having a business relationship. But if it goes beyond the innocent, then there is a problem (unless there is full knowledge and consent from my partner). The same would go if positions were reversed. Remember, there is a difference between a massage and fondling.
Not only is it unprofessional in the workplace, even if you aren't married to someone else, it is inappropriate to do outside of work as well. That kind of thing should not be done once you're married. You know, that whole ';faithful only to you'; part? ; )
We're talking about a married couple here. Even for an unmarried couple, either is unacceptable under any circumstances.
If that's not his profession and he doesn't not receive pay (money) for it, then its inappropriate for either gender to get massaged.
i'm not a massaging person. it's not my skill it's not my job so it's not acceptable.

    a friend is okay
LOL. So what's the massage situation, is there any work being done? And if so, who is making the request? - George Costanza
None of the above! that stuff needs to stay out of the workplace because it infringes on professional boundaries!
that is so innapropriate for the work environment
Nope, never appropriate. You and your spouse can do this for each other.

  • How many people married their secondary school girlfriend?

Out of interest, to see how many of these relationships last longer than the few years we're at school for.How many people married their secondary school girlfriend?
We did %26amp; 18 years on still married ';mostly happy - say about 90% of the time and have two children

Personally I think when people marry and with whom does not determine the outcome of a relationship despite the stats. I know some very mature 16 year old and some really dumb 34 year olds. I know who is going into a relationship with their heads screwed on right. What happens along the way is either fate (depending on your beliefs) or how people change (yes the 34 year old can change within the first 6 months of marriage too)How many people married their secondary school girlfriend?
I married my childhood sweetheart 17 years ago. He not only is my lover but is my best friend. We have had two great children together. Don't get me wrong it hasn't been a bed of roses and like all relationships have gone through some really rocky patches. Thankfully we came out smiling. Marriage is something you need to work at.
i did and have been married 30 years next week the secret i think is i have always loved her and never stopped even through the bad times and make no mistake you will always have them !!!
Well loving someone doesnt change from high school neighborhood or even neighbors, i know a friend married his GF from a very early love during school.

They r still together for 21 years.

    _K_
Didn't marry, but still see and bestest friends with (25 years on!)
I married my childhood boyfriend. 16yrs on and we're divorcing now.

Are you legally married during the ceremony, or when you get your marriage license?

If you got left at the alter, do you need a divorce or an annulment? Are you legally married during the ceremony, or when you get your marriage license?
You are not married until the person performing the ceremony says ';I now pronounce you man and wife.'; After the ceremony the person who married you will sign the marriage certificate. Then, you are married.

You aren't married if you are left at the altar.....that is why you would be left at the altar; because the person didn't want to get married. Are you legally married during the ceremony, or when you get your marriage license?
You are legally married AFTER the ceremony, when the officiant files the paperwork.

If you're left at the alter, there was no marriage. The license allows you to get married, but the paperwork is filed by the officiant after the ceremony, when all three parties (the two getting married, and the officiant) have signed the paperwork.
no you are not married if both parties did not sayi do, unless of course you would be a comon law marriage, which would hve to meet certain guidelines

I just fot married by civil and now I need to start preparing my actual weeding. Where do i start?

I just got married yesterday. We got married in a chapel just the two of us. Now It's time to start saving for my real weeding which we plan for next December 2010. How much is the average cost? for a middle class weeding? How did you prepare your weeding?I just fot married by civil and now I need to start preparing my actual weeding. Where do i start?
I assume you mean ';real wedding'; as in reception. I understand what you mean.

IF you are going to go ahead and have this, i would just say have a ';Reception';, although a year ahead is a bit far. Depending on how many guests and what you want included would be the costs. You didnt mention that,.I just fot married by civil and now I need to start preparing my actual weeding. Where do i start?
You had your real/actual wedding. You think the legal civil wedding was just playing house in the backyard? If so, you have no business getting married in the first place because you have no clue as to the solemnity of the legal paperwork you signed. It's things like that that make marriage such a joke to so many people anymore because they don't take any of it seriously. And then people wonder why the divorce rate is so high on top of that?
Your ceremony yesterday was your actual wedding. You don't get two of them. The one next year is simply a vow renewal ceremony so I suggest you don't go over the top and have a bridal party, white dress, huge reception, expect gifts, etc. You should have waited until you could afford your ';real wedding'; before you got married yesterday.
You learn how to spell wedding correctly, and you don't get a do-over. Your civil ceremony was your ';real'; wedding. Won't it feel hollow wearing the white dress, exchanging vows and being pronounced husband and wife when you've been married for a number of months? I can't see why you couldn't wait in the first place if you wanted a ';real'; wedding.
I liked the first answer ... a pair of garden gloves and shovel. Really, that is all you need for weeding. It really isn't that expensive either. A pair of garden gloves runs about $5 or less. I prepare for weeding by wetting the garden so that the weeds come out a little easier when you pull them.

    Happy weeding!
Your ';actual'; wedding took place yesterday. If you are planning a large-scale party for some date at the end of next year, go for it. But calling it a wedding makes the whole thing look like a shameless attempt at a gift-grab.
You had a wedding yesterday....but now are preparing for another wedding in 2010?? You only get one wedding.

    Congratulations!
Honey, you had your REAL wedding yesterday.
A pair of gardening gloves and a shovel.
A real wedding? You just had your wedding in a chapel.
Um, that was your ';real'; wedding. Sorry.
you are already married. why do you need to prepare for a weeding?
Wow i dont understand why everyone is making such a big deal about this i am legally married now have been for a few weeks and im not having a wedding until october. I think its a good idea to marry legally first then have a wedding after. Youll save alot of money if things dont work out. But anyways...It depends alot on where you live for how much. My fiance and i are having a middle class wedding for 3000 but we live in ohio so most things are relatively cheap. You need to get a venue a place for reception, a dress, a tux, groomsmen, bridesmaids, flower girl, ring bearer, flowers, decotations, food/catering...and probably a million other things....you could check out some of these sites

When you get married to someone that has horrible credit what happens to your perfect credit?

My future husband has a car repossession (2003), bankruptcy (2003), and home foreclosure (2007). Is my nice score going to get hurt?

What if we don't get loans or apply for credit together? Would that keep our scores separate or am I in trouble no matter what just by getting married?

Please help! When you get married to someone that has horrible credit what happens to your perfect credit?
As long as you do not apply for joint credit your fine.

Your score is just that yours and yours alone, same for him marriage has nothing to do with credit scores. When you get married to someone that has horrible credit what happens to your perfect credit?
Protect yourself by not applying for any joint credit including home ownership.
Listen to Spiffman, as usual he is correct and once again here ahead of me. :-(
I have worked in the mortgage industry for approx 10 years as an underwritter - my experience has shown that getting married will not necessarily change your credit score. However, when you apply for credit, if you are both going to be on the note (paper that says you'll pay back the money) then the company will consider both of your credit scores. At no time can his bad debt become yours; but it can be considered when making a decission on lending. Something to look into is if you live in a community lending state - they have different lending requirements that may consider his debt even if he isn't on the loan.

Good luck to you and congrats on tieing the knot!
A couple does not have a credit score or file. You have yours and he has his. If you apply for a loan on your own, they won't even look at his. In fact, it's illegal to consider your marital status.

When you get married is the information automatically submitted to government agencies?

Please provide any sources you may have. If someone was married in Nevada but never reported it to social security, the state they lived, or anything does it get reported anyways? I'm just wondering, because it seems like when you get married it becomes a lot harder to get certain things done and if it is the case I'll just need to remain unmarried. Please give me accurate info and not just guess, thanks. When you get married is the information automatically submitted to government agencies?
uh... A marriage license is returned to the county where it was issued when complete. They do not input it into a national system. It falls on the individual, their employers, and occasional odd interested parties to report said marriage if at all to government agencies.

I've been married and unmarried. It's a lot easier to get things done legally with a spouse. When you get married is the information automatically submitted to government agencies?

When you get married the only thing that's automatic is the name change. You still need to go to social security to update your new name and get a new card reflecting that change. Once that's done, you can get a new drivers license in your new name. You still have to report your name change to any companies you do business with, ie. bank, credit card companies, loans.
In most states, the person who performs the ceremony has to acknowledge it on a form and send it to government officials (state, county, or maybe both). I'm not sure about Nevada, but it's probably the same.
you generally need to go down and change your name at social security office when you get married.
