Do have a catholic wedding do you have to get married in a church?

I'm planning my friends wedding and her cousin is a priest who they'd like to have conduct the vows.

They want a catholic wedding, one honored by the church, but they want to have a outdoor wedding as well. As Catholic's are we allowed to be wed outside the church or does it need to be in a church in order to have your wedding blessed by the church?Do have a catholic wedding do you have to get married in a church?
In order for it to be a Catholic wedding and seen as a marriage by the Catholic church, you must be married in a Catholic church. Because of the strong stance the Catholic church has on weddings, your friend's cousin will not be able to perform the ceremony or even appear there as a priest unless it is in a church.

I had some very dear friends of mine be excommunicated for ';living in sin'; because their marriage wasn't performed in a church. They had it in a nondenominational chapel of a location that meant a great deal to them. It didn't make any difference to the church. They were still considered to not be married.

Your friend needs to decide what is more important, an outdoor wedding, or a Catholic wedding.

Good luck.Do have a catholic wedding do you have to get married in a church?
If you wish your friends to be married outside, you must get permission from the Vatican, the priest whom they wish to preform the wedding must send a letter of recommendation to the Bishop of the area, and that is then sent to the Vatican for approval. Not many are approved, by the way.

Well, that's actually two questions you have there.

1. Yes, in order to have a Catholic wedding you need to get married in the Catholic Church.

2. No, you don't need to get married in a church in order to have your wedding blessed. You just need to meet the requirements set by the church in order to receive the blessing.

If your friend's cousin is a Catholic priest though he won't be allowed to perform the wedding outside the church.
Catholics consider marriage to be a Sacrament, a three-way covenant between man, woman and God. So Catholic weddings almost always happen in a church, where the Eucharistic Lord is physically present.

The only exceptions are emergency situations -- the bride is in the hospital due to a car accident or the groom is at his mother's deathbed, so the marriage is performed in an alternative location.

Catholic weddings are usually never held in a different location just because the couple wants a different aesthetic. For Catholics, there is nothing more beautiful on Earth than being in the presence of the Eucharistic Lord, so this is where we should want to be for our weddings.

There are some outdoor chapels where the Eucharistic Lord can be brought, but if you don't have one in that location, you should advise your friends to have the wedding in a Church.
You must be married in the Catholic Church to have a Catholic wedding.

It is considered in poor taste to have an outdoor wedding THEN a church blessing at a later date, and is frowned upon by the Catholic Church. The Vatican has a great website full of information for you to review.

Your friend needs to make a decision: which is more important- getting married outside or getting married within her faith?
I don't understand why people want to get married outside of a church, i just don't get it. Yes in order for it to be a Catholic wedding you have to have it be in a Catholic church. Otherwise it's just a legal wedding that blessed by the church wich is frowned upon.
Although the usual practice is for a Catholic marriage to be celebrated is in a parish church, the bishop can give permission for the marriage to be celebrated in another suitable place.

For more information, see the Code of Canon Law, Canon 1118: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/__鈥?/a>

With love in Christ.
The Catholic Church requires the wedding be performed inside the church itself. There is no such thing as an outdoor Catholic wedding.
Catholic weddings are ALWAYS held inside a Catholic church.
you don't have to get married in a church. you can get a priest blessing and if you give a donation I am sure they will marry you anyway..

It all comes down to money, no matter the faith.
