What is a good toy breed dog for a young married couple?

We work with college students, so we want a breed that will accept new people. We rent, so it has to be very small (per our landlords rules), any suggestions? What is a good toy breed dog for a young married couple?
First... any dog will accept strangers if you teach them to at a young age.... if you get your puppy and socialize it a lot before the age of 6 months you will have no problem with people... so don't let that make your decision for you... second you need to know what breed will fit your life style... do you have time to groom the dog regularly... if you don't stay away from breeds like Pomeranian, yorkies, Maltese, etc. these dogs REQUIRE daily grooming... if you don't do it their hair will get matted and it is expensive to get them shaved... not to mention it looks awful... also if you don't have time anything mixed with a poodle is usually good because they don't take to much grooming and they rarely shed... but you don't always know what you are getting with these dogs..sometimes they pick up the other breeds traits and you get stuck with bad hair... if you have time to groom I suggest poms... i have trained 20 or so and they have been one of the best breeds I have trained... also check into Italian greyhounds... they have a tendency to be really good family dogs and because they have such short hair they really don't need a lot of grooming... and last Chihuahua's... they are not my favorite dog to train but they are supposed to be one of the lowest maintenance dogs out there... of course long hair looks better but there is a big grooming possibility. 3rd you want to know about exercise requirements... some dogs, like Jack Russells, need a lot of exercise and if you don't have time to walk them 2-3 times a day they will go crazy...so this should be a big part of your choice... certain dogs (like herding dogs and hunting dogs..blue healers and beagles) are not good apt dogs.. they need lots of attention, time, and exercise... if they don't get it they will destroy your house (there goes your deposit) ...4th read up on the breeds the AKC.org is a great place to learn about the breeds tendencies, temperament, and they can hook you up with really good breeders (so you don't get a puppy mill dog)..and lastly check your local shelter... you can get great dogs there (and about 20-30% of the time they are pure breeds)... they will be less expensive for you... and you could save a life. What is a good toy breed dog for a young married couple?
yorkies :D
I live in an apartment, and I have 3 wonderful toy poodles. they are terrific companions, and very entertaining. and, even though they are trained to be quiet, they bark if someone comes to the door. I think that's a good thing.

so, I would recommend a toy poodle. it's exercise needs are minimal, but it will sit and cuddle with you on the couch all evening while you watch TV. it may even let you pick the programme.
Boston Terrier.
Get a Pomeranian...they love people. They do bark at new people or anything that makes a sound, but they really want to please you. They are very lovable and also good with children. They are somewhat hard to potty train, as are all toy breeds, but buy some puppy pads and you will be all set. They do cost $300-$400 though. But they are worth it!
The problem with young couples is they often have children and while some toy dogs do okay, for the most part they are better suited to homes with older children or adults only. There are small dogs that would work well. Some of the Spaniel breeds might work. They are small but not tiny and make wonderful pets. I really love the Cavaliers. If you have decided never to have children, then any of the toy breeds might work. I have long coat Chihuahuas but Pomeranians or Chinese Cresteds are nice dogs too.
maltese

not too energetic and takes to commands well
get a medium sized dog. ud actually be better off to get a mixed dog... i have had MANY pitbull shepherd mixes and they make EXCELENT pets although i believe to large for an appartment. i do not recommend a pit bull or a shepherdd though. through experience those dogs are mainly loyal and love there owners ONLYplus they need alot of room . border collies or huskies are wonderful people animals and reletively small. as long as youwalk them once or twice a daythey are not hyper. i recommend them above all others.
toy poodle

just dont get it hair cut like in the picture... if i lived in an appartment it is deffintly the dog i would have
All Toy breeds may work, however be careful if you are planning to have children, Toy breeds may not work that well. It is known that Toy breeds tend to be a little aggressive with young children (especially Chiuhuhahuas). I would suggest you a medium size breed. There are many and some are really gorgeous, family oriemted and so sweet.
